Commercial Electrical contractors Ormskirk, Liverpool & Manchester

Commercial electrical installation, testing and maintenance across the North West. Working to BS 7671, with our own directly employed engineers. Established 1976.

commercial electrical contractors since 1976

We’ve been looking after commercial electrical work across Merseyside and West Lancashire for the best part of fifty years. That covers everything from a full fit out on a new unit down to a fault that’s taken half a production line out on a Tuesday afternoon. All of it to BS 7671, all of it certified properly, and all of it carried out by our own engineers rather than passed to whoever happens to be free.

commercial electrical services

Below is a selection of the commercial electrical services we provide day in, day out. If you have a project that is not listed, get in touch and we will let you know if we can help.

New installations & fit outs

Complete electrical installation for new build units, refurbishments and change of use. Distribution, containment, small power, lighting and everything that hangs off it, coordinated around the other trades and signed off properly at the end.

Distribution boards & three phase power

Board changes, upgrades and new supplies, including three phase distribution for machinery and plant. Planned around your operation, because taking power off a working building is not something to improvise.

Commercial LED lighting

Lighting upgrades and full relights pays for itself faster than people expect on a building running long hours, and it’s a good moment to sort out lighting levels that were never correct in the first place.

Fixed wire testing & EICRs

Periodic inspection and testing of your installation, with a clear report, coded findings and a fixed price for putting right anything that needs it. More on what this actually involves below.

Fault finding & remedial work

Tracing the fault rather than replacing things until it stops. Nuisance tripping, intermittent faults, the circuit that only fails when it rains. This is the work that separates contractors, and we’re good at it.

Machine & plant wiring

Connecting, moving and rewiring machinery, including isolation, control wiring and the power supply to suit. Scheduled around production wherever we can manage it.

Testing, Certification & Your Legal Duties

Commercial electrical work carries obligations that a lot of business owners only discover when their insurer asks a question. Here’s the plain version.

Electricity At Work Regulations

Any door held shut by an electromagnetic lock on an escape route has to release when the fire alarm activates, and BS 7273-4 sets out how that release should be wired and how reliable it needs to be depending on the risk. This is the part most often got wrong, usually by whoever fitted the locks having no involvement with the fire system. We do both, so the interface is designed in rather than bolted on afterwards.

Fixed wire testing and EICRs

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a periodic inspection of your fixed wiring. Findings are coded: C1 means danger is present and needs sorting immediately, C2 means potentially dangerous and needs urgent attention, C3 is an improvement recommendation, and FI means something needs further investigation. A report is only satisfactory with no C1, C2 or FI outstanding. Commercial premises are commonly inspected every five years and industrial premises every three, but it varies by premises type and the previous inspector sets the next date.

BS 7671 and Amendment 4 Update

All our work is carried out and certified to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations. Amendment 4 was published in April 2026 and becomes the sole standard from 15 October 2026, when the previous version is withdrawn. It brings in new requirements covering battery storage, Power over Ethernet and a substantial rewrite of the section on medical locations. We’re working to it already.

commercial premises we protect & maintain

Five decades in the trade means we have worked across just about every commercial sector in the North West. If yours is not shown below, get in touch.

Warehousing and distribution

High bay lighting, loading bay power, racking lighting alterations and the distribution to support it. Access equipment and out of hours working as required.

Retail units

Shopfitting electrical, display lighting, till points and the certification your landlord will ask for at the end of it.

offices

Fit outs, partition changes, lighting upgrades and the small power alterations that come with every desk move. Usually worked around people who are trying to get on with their jobs.

manufacturing

Three phase distribution, machine connections, isolation and control wiring, plus the fault finding that keeps a line running. We understand that downtime is the real cost, not the invoice.

Schools & Colleges

Work scheduled into holidays wherever possible, with the safeguarding checks and site inductions that come with working around children.

Healthcare

Surgeries, clinics and care premises, where the wiring regs have specific requirements and the paperwork gets looked at closely.

Multi Tenant Units

Landlord supplies, tenant separation, metering and the periodic testing that managing agents need for their records.

Hospitality

Kitchens, bars, cellar equipment and the sort of installation that has to survive heat, steam and cleaning. Usually done between last orders and opening.

How We Work With You

Different jobs need different arrangements, and we’re happy with any of these.

One off projects

A defined piece of work with a fixed price and a start date. Fit outs, relights, board changes, an EICR and the remedials that follow it. You get a written quotation with the scope set out so there’s no argument at the end about what was included.

Planned maintenance

An agreed schedule covering your fixed wire testing, emergency lighting, fire alarm servicing and anything else on a cycle, booked in advance so it happens without you chasing it. Most clients who have been with us a while end up here, mainly because it’s one less thing to remember.

Emergency callout

Things go wrong at inconvenient times. We take callouts outside normal hours for maintenance clients, and we’ll always try to help anyone else who rings. If something is unsafe we’ll make it safe first and sort the paperwork afterwards.

Our installation Process

HOW WE GET IT DONE

Straightforward, and the same on every job. No surprises at the end of it. It’s about results and not excuses.

01

Free site visit

We come out, look at the job, and talk to whoever actually knows how the building works. Free and no obligation.

02

Scope & Design

We set out what’s needed, including anything you didn’t ask for but ought to know about, and design to BS 7671. Larger projects get drawings and a schedule.

03

written quotation

Fixed price, itemised, with the scope in writing. If something is likely to turn up once we open things up, we’ll tell you at quote stage rather than after.

04

Programme and access

We agree when we’re on site and how we’re getting power off. On a live building that’s usually the hardest part to plan and the part most contractors handle worst.

05

installation

Our own engineers, qualified, uniformed and site inducted. We tidy up as we go, which shouldn’t be worth mentioning but apparently is.

06

testing & Maintenance

Everything tested and certified, with the paperwork your insurer, landlord or building control will ask for. Then, if you want it, onto a maintenance schedule.

FAQ

Common questions we get asked

Choosing an electrical contractor professional comes with plenty of questions. Here are the ones we get asked the most, and we are always happy to answer anything else before you commit to anything

How often does commercial premises need an EICR?

Commercial premises are commonly inspected every five years and industrial premises every three, though it varies by type and the previous inspector sets the interval. A change of occupancy or a significant alteration is also a good reason to test. If you genuinely don’t know when yours was last done, it’s overdue.

An EICR covers the fixed wiring in the building, so the boards, circuits, sockets and lighting. PAT testing, properly called in service inspection and testing, covers portable appliances that plug in. Different jobs, different reports, and you need to think about both.

It means there’s at least one C1, C2 or FI on the report. C1 means there’s danger present and we’d normally make it safe on the day. C2 and FI need attending to before the report can be signed off as satisfactory. We’ll price the remedials separately so you can see exactly what you’re paying to fix, and we won’t pad the list.

Yes, and on a lot of commercial jobs it’s the only sensible way to do it. Evenings, weekends, shutdown periods and phased working on a live building are all normal for us. We’ll build it into the quotation rather than treating it as an extra.

That’s most of what we do. Fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV, access control and emergency lighting all need the electrical work behind them, and having one contractor for both means fewer visits, one set of paperwork and nobody blaming anyone else when something doesn’t work.

Areas we Serve

commercial electrical contractors for the North West

We’re based in Ormskirk and install commercial access control across West Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester, from Ormskirk and Skelmersdale out to Liverpool, Manchester, Southport, Wigan, Warrington, Preston and St Helens. We’ll travel further for larger projects, so if you’re not sure whether we cover you, send the postcode over and we’ll let you know.

What else we look after

Access control looks after the working day, the intruder alarm looks after everything outside it, and the handover between the two is where most false alarms come from. Linked properly, a valid entry unsets the right zone on its own.

Entry events and footage line up, so when you need to see who actually used a fob rather than who it was issued to, you’re not scrubbing through four hours of recording to find it.

Every locked door on an escape route depends on the fire alarm to release it. Having both on the same contract means the interface is somebody’s clear responsibility rather than nobody’s.
